Africa, let your light shine

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

Kalene Hill in the distance

There was an incident that happened nearby Kalene last week. A tragic incident. A turn of events that could bring either life or death. Last week, a man was murdered while he was working in a field. He was found 3 days later, discovered by a young boy who gathering supplies to go fishing. The dead man had rope marks around his wrist and neck. Killed by strangulation.

The family of the man has since discovered who the killer is, and he has fled. Now they are face to face with a difficult choice. The family professes to be Christian but will their faith hold up to the grief and anger towards the murderer? This culture is heavily laden with witchcraft, sorcery and spells, and it is not uncommon for a person who claims to be a Christian to return to the ways of the devil to get revenge. They live in great fear of what others might do to them. Fear that can be removed through the blood of the Lamb. This family has two options. They can call upon the local witch to cast a spell on the killer, or they can respond with forgiveness and love. Please pray that their hearts would be set upon Christ and his redemption. Their actions will speak loudly to the people here. Their response will either tear down the name of Christianity or it will be a powerful example of forgiveness that these people and the nearby villages will see.

I, too, pray for the light of Jesus to shine through the hearts of this precious grieving family. I pray they will feel His presence through this dark time for them and rest in His strong arms. May God richly bless them in their time of grief.
